Look what I got from the fine folks at Red Gold today!
It’s really quite cute, and it matches my red kitchen perfectly. It’s now hanging beside my commemorative Healthy Food Fight apron, which led The Hubs to suggest that I might be turning into the Queen of Gimme Aprons. Personally, I think there are worse things a person could become.
Before my new apron arrived, The Hubs and I had a most excellent Foodie day while the kids were in school. We both teach at church-affiliated universities, which means Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are campus holidays–so we declared today Mom & Dad Thursday and headed off to the nearby outlet malls. I had an Eddie Bauer gift card from my birthday (which was in January–yes, it’s been a very busy semester) that really needed to be spent, and while we were nosing around the shopping center I found a cute set of parfait glasses on sale at Pottery Barn/Williams Sonoma. That made me very happy. And then, I found the OXO Mango Splitter, also on sale. I’ve been looking for it everywhere, and I’d pretty much decided I was going to order it from Amazon–just as soon as I could get organized enough to remember that I needed to buy it. And then, there it was, right in front of me. It’s an Easter miracle!
Speaking of Easter, I’m thinking I’ll use my mango splitter to make some mango curd with which to fill the miniature pavlovas that will cap off our brunch on Sunday. The rest of my Easter menu is still up in the air, though–we’re not big ham people, and every holiday menu I can find seems to revolve around ham (or brisket, which just doesn’t say Easter to me.) Any favorites on your family table? I’m open to suggestions!
